WUR Open Agriculture KPI Calculator

by Wageningen Environmental Research

version: 0.13.1

About

Welcome to the KPI calculator, an open calculation engine for computing Key Performance Indicators for agriculture using a standardized methodology. This KPI calculator is a product of the KPI-K project BoerenKPI.nl, funded by the Ministry of LVVN, and developed in collaboration with WUR, Boerenverstand, Louis Bolk, and other parties in the Netherlands. During the development of the calculation rules [Learn More] underlying the KPIs, it became evident that small differences in implementation choices often lead to different outcomes. Therefore, this KPI calculator has been made available, where the calculation is separated from the data and the results or KPI values.

The KPI calculator is provided as an Application Programming Interface (API), where data can be sent, and results, along with possible error messages, are returned. The KPI calculator performs calculations only; data is not stored or separately saved in a database.

The API is designed for developers, data scientists, and modelers, so the detailed documentation is mostly in English, and prior knowledge of API usage is required. This way, the KPI calculator can be integrated into dashboards and data systems of third parties.

API Access

An API key is needed to access the KPI Calculator. A valid AgroDataCube token can be used, it can be requested by [Registering Here]. Then add it to the header of each API request, using the name 'x-api-key'.

As the next step you can use the API to lookup the IDs of agricultural fields based on their location, for example those belonging to a farm. Once found you can use the field IDs to calculate KPIs. Note that you cannot mix fields from different years in a KPI calculation. Calculations will always be attempted 'as best as possible', potential issues will be reported in the response, and need to be checked so that you can take appropriate action.
